November 12-14, 2009 - Irrigation Association Training and Certification Exams July 23, 2009 - IGEL The 2009 class of Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership will hear from experts on water related issues affecting Georgia. June 30, 2009 - SIRP Field Day SIRP Research and Extension team members showcase the latest in field research results, scheduling techniques, and crop responses to water. June 2-4, 2009 - 4H2O SUMMER CAMP The 4H20 Summer program is a collaboration of Stripling Irrigation Research Park, the Flint RiverQuarium, Mitchell Co. 4H, and the Jones Ecological Research Center. It is a 3 day summer educational event to help educate our young people about agriculture and the environment, in particular the importance of irrigation and water conservation to the rural southwest Georgia ecology and economy. 4H advisers in Mitchell Co. and their colleagues in surrounding counties bought groups from those counties to participate in this program. On Tuesday June 2, the students and chaperones spent the day at SIRP to learn about how agriculture and water resources are intricately related in this part of the state. On June 3, the students spent the day at the RiverQuarium learning about the Flint River, its chemical and biological diversity and the critters that call it home. On Thurs June 4, we took the students over to the divide between the Flint basin and the Chattahoochee basin to observe topographical differences and then over the Chattahoochee and on to Dothan to their water park. Please follow the link to view 4H2O Summer Camp Pictures Camp Photos January 13 & 14, 2009 - Irrigation Scheduling Workshop Workshop is available for 20 to 20 crop consultants and irrigation managers from around the Southeast Coastal Plain. Registration $100. Two-day workshop designed to improve skills in irrigation scheduling and help consultants monitor and manage more irrigated fields. All modern techniques will be covered through hands-on examination of sensors, scheduling programs. Tips and techniques to install sensors will be taught, and each participant will take part in setting up a monitoring network. Further details will be released soon. September 18, 2008 - Georgia Irrigation Association's (GIA) Agricultural Chapter: Inagural Meeting About 40 individuals representing irrigation manufacturers, dealers, and users, as well as representatives of state agencies and researchers assembled at SIRP to consider options and reasons for forming an agricultural chapter of GIA. Tom Kimmel, Past President and Executive Director of tthe Irrigation Association and Ed Klaas, President of GIA led discussions on the industry and regulatory trends that may affect the industry. Several local leaders volunteered to serve on a steering board of an Ag Chapter or Ag Interest Group to remain in GIA. September 3-5, 2008 - Humid Region Irrigation Research Group Research and extension specialists from 8 Southeast states met in Tifton, Ga., to review regional progress on research affecting irrigation. Each state presented progress reports on regional goals, and the group decided to continue regional cooperation by forming a new regional project for 2009 to 20014. During the meeting the group visited and examined equipment and research going on at the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Park. July 24, 2008 - IGEL Tour & Luncheon UGA research and extension specialists will discuss current irrigation and technology research projects at the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park during a stop on their tour. The event will be hosted for the UGA Institute for Georgia Environmental Leadership. July 15, 2008 - Irrigation Field Day UGA and USDA research and extension specialists discuss ongoing irrigation researchand, especially, technology used in scheduling irrigation at the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park. 92 attendees. June 24, 2008 - Mitchell County 4-H Summer Class A class on water resources planned by Jennifer Grogan, UGA Cooperative Extension Service, Mitchell County. June 12, 2008 - TNC Irrigation Training This training session was organized for staff of The Nature Consevancy and SIRP by David Reckford who manages the Flint River Basin Program, a partnership of The Nature Conservancy, USDA Natural Resource Conservation Service, and Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District. June 10, 2008 - SW Georgia Agents update on the Farm Bill Sponsored by the SW Georgia District of the UGA Cooperative Extension Service. May 22, 2008 - UGA Crop Modeling Tour Sponsored by the DSSAT modeling team and UGA for participants in the 2008 Crop Modeling Training held at Griffin. This South Georgia leg was organized by Joel Paz. May 22, 2008 - Young Farmers Irrigation Management Training Sponsored by the Georgia Young Farmers and organized by Floyd Peters. March 21, 2008 - Farm Bureau Awareness Tour Sponsored by the Georgia Farm Bureau, Wanda Faircloth organizing. February 19 and 26, 2008 - Soil Water and Irrigation Management Training Sponsored by the Flint River Soil and Water Management Distrist, SIRP and The University of Georgia. September 12, 2005 - Humid Region Irrigation Field Tour UGA and USDA research and extension specialists discussed their ongoing irrigation and technology research projects at the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park and the USDA National Peanut Lab. The event was hosted for the S1018 Regional Research Project participants. August 15-16, 2005 - South Georgia Cotton Tour UGA and USDA research and extension specialists discussed current cotton irrigation and technology research projects at the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park during a stop on their tour. The event was hosted for the Louisana Cotton Growers group. August 12, 2005 - Georgia Congressional Staff Tour UGA research and extension specialists discussed current irrigation and technology research projects at the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park during a stop on their tour. The event was hosted for the the UGA College of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences. July 7, 2005 - Cotton Irrigation Field Day UGA research and extension specialists discussed current research projects at the C.M. Stripling Irrigation Research Park. Topics will included reducing water loss through sprinkler package selection, remote infrared sensing of plant water stress, irrigation scheduling, subsurface drip irrigation costs and controls, irrigation scheduling software, cotton insect and water interaction, and growth regulators in dryland and irrigated fields. Farmers, county agents and cotton industry personnel attended. June 30, 2005 - Sprinkler Technology Field Day Nelson Irrigation and Senninger Irrigation demonstrated their latest in drop nozzle technology. The meeting attendees included UGA staff, Area 3 NRCS staff (and other NRCS staff if they would like to attend), Flint River SWCD supervisors, GA Soil and Water Irrigation staff, Golden Triangle, and Irrigation Dealers through out the Flint River Basin. This event was co-sponsored by Flint River Soil and Water Conservation District, NRCS, The Nature Conservancy, Senninger Irrigation and Nelson Irrigation June 9, 2005 - Southwest Georgia Youth Science and Technology Center meeting Science teachers from the SW region attended. |
