Irrigated
Acres by Crop
The Suwannee and Ochlocknee basins produce a wide variety
of crops under irrigation. Three of the top five irrigated
crops (cotton, peanut and corn) include a fiber crop, legume
nut for human consumption, and an animal feed. Vegetables
are a very important segment of the irrigated area, especially
in the Ochlocknee basin. Pecans, another edible nut makes
up the 5th largest area irrigated in these basins. As can
be seen in a statewide view, the predominant crops have
changed over the years since irrigation began in Georgia,
partially in response to available water for irrigation.
