Drought versus Normal Monthly Rainfall - 2007 Drought

36 Stations of Upper Flint WPR

2007 was an example of a particularly severe one-year drought. In this WPR rainfall was well below normal in late winter and through most of spring. Rains returned to the region in early June and monthly deficits ended. Groundwater and reservoir recharge lost during the normal winter/spring incharge period, however, cannot usually be replaced until the summer evaporation period ends.

As with the 1998-2002 drought, mereorologists link it to La Nina phenomena. In the Southeast US, La Nina bring drier and warmer than normal winters.
