Dr. John C. Ricketts
Associate Professor & Coordinator of Agricultural Education

Current Activities:
Dr. Ricketts teaches and advises undergraduates and graduate students in agricultural leadership, education and communication. He is co-advisor to the Nationally-recognized UGA Collegiate FFA chapter and the Alpha Tau Alpha Honorary Agricultural Education Fraternity. Currently, he teaches the following courses:

•  AGED 4010/6010 Field Experiences in Agriculture Education
•  AGED 4360/6360 Methods of Teaching Agriculture
•  AGED 5460/7460 Student Teaching/Internship in Agricultural Education
•  AGED 7450 Internship in Agribusiness and Industry
•  HONS 1990H Critical and Creative Thinking in Agricultural Science
•  FRES 1020 Leadership for Collegiate, Professional, and Personal Success

Research Focus:
Dr. Ricketts' research focuses on improving secondary agricultural education students' academic achievement in science, math, and reading. Dr. Ricketts has also published in the areas of youth leadership development, critical thinking of agriscience students and teachers, and teacher efficacy and needs.

Career Highlights:
Dr. Ricketts started working for the University of Georgia in 2003. Before coming to Georgia , Dr. Ricketts worked as an instructor and researcher at the University of Florida . Dr. Ricketts was a high school agriscience teacher in Tennessee for over four years. Dr. Ricketts has co-authored a leadership textbook and has published research in the Journal of Agricultural Education, the Journal of Applied Communication, the Journal of Extension, the Southern Journal of Agricultural Education Research, and the Journal of Career and Technical Education. Dr. Ricketts has served on committees for the improvement of teaching at national and international levels. He is a member of the Association of Career and Technical Education, the Georgia Association of Career and Technical Education, the American Association for Agricultural Education, the North American Association of Colleges and Teachers in Agriculture, the Association of Leadership Educators and the Georgia Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association.
